Alyssa Foster, a junior computer science major from Brodheadsville, Pa., joined PASSHEâs advanced data analytics team for the fall 2025 semester. She analyzed data on ESUâs first-generation student population to help inform university policies and programs.

Department of Sociology, Social Work, & Criminal Justice proudly hosted the 8th Annual Dr. Barbara G. Collins Social Work Professional Development Day on November 24, bringing together a large and diverse audience of field instructors, social work students, and community-based practitioners for a full-day conference on Artificial Intelligence and its implications for social work.

ESU joined the Autism Collaborative Centers for Excellence (ACCE) and its affiliates with the establishment of a Center for Autism Education, with funding from the All One Foundation.
ESU was the first institution in the State System to commercialize a student/faculty research project in Lyme-Aid, a tick testing kit for people and pets. It has since been rebranded under the internationally-recognized CUTTER brand. Additionally, ESUâs PA Tick Research Lab has received two $500,000 state grants to provide free tick testing for PA residents.
ESU was one of 50 institutions nationwide to receive the 2019 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from Insight into Diversity magazine, for its Clear Path and ESportsU Foundation programs.
ESU was named one of only 10 âBest of the Best Schoolsâ finalists during the 2019 Pennsylvania National Guard Associations awards celebration.

Dr. Sam Niedbala â82 - Founder of OraSure Technologies, Inc. (and later OraQuick) in 1989, the first rapid HIV tests in the U.S. that were approved for use with blood and saliva. Since then, Niedbala has been responsible for development of new products and technologies

Len Lehman â94 and Dan DiZio â95 - Founding partners of Philly Pretzel Factory. DiZio was featured on CBSâs "Undercover Boss" in 2012 and served as ESUâs inaugural speaker for the presidentâs distinguished entrepreneur speaker series.
